Austism is an illness that no one really understands. It affects 1 in 150 children (mostly male). It manifests itself differently in each child even if they have the exact same diagnosis (similiar to no snowflake is the same).
Many pediatricians cannot properly diagnose it, this is why many children get intervention late. New parents depend on this primary professional to help guide them as their little bundle of joy develops.
The purpose of this site is simple:
- To help parents/custodians understand they are not alone.
- To provide real information that will be helpful to any person loving a person with this delay
- I will also be sharing my experience as I walk through this unfamilair and sometimes scary world of autism.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or autism is a developmental disability considered the result of a neurological condition affecting normal brain function, development and social interactions. Children and adults with autism find it difficult or impossible to relate to other people in a meaningful way and may show restrictive and/or repetitive patterns of behavior or body movements. CAUSES:
The cause (or causes) of autism are not yet fully understood. However, it is believed that at least some cases involve an inherited or acquired genetic defect. Researchers have proposed that the immune-system, metabolic, and environmental factors may play an important part as well. It is not caused by emotional trauma, as was once theorized.
